Matsuda Acupuncture is an alternative medicine resource for the locals of Price, UT. When I was first approached to design this logo, there was neither a name nor a clear sense of brand identity. After some initial branding conversations and exploring a few logo options, it was decided that the primary concern was credibility. These decisions are reflected in the chosen logo design.
Alternate Direction Two (Hummingbird): This alternative logo option explored a visual metaphor as a solution. The business values are represented through the combination of a hummingbird and lotus flower. As an icon, the lotus already offers a wealth of established eastern medicine and acupuncture symbolism. The hummingbird is native to the business’s local area, carrying positive local associations. Its beak symbolizes the acupuncture needle that draws nectar into its life. The bowl from which it draws from is a herbal medicine bowl. Pastel colors offer a warm inviting and spiritual presence.
Alternate Direction Three (Plant + Needle): This direction was a fairly straightforward attempt to combine the medicinal caduceus with acupuncture and plants. This direction focused too much on the homeopathic and alternative medicine, which took away from the clinical feel the brand was striving to portray.
